Physician's FAQ Page

1.) Can my office really have two fee schedules: one for patients who are insured and another for patients without insurance?  Absolutely.  You're free to charge patients what you wish although you may be bound to fee schedules with certain insurance contracts.

2.) What if a patient has a high deductible -  can I charge according to my cash fee schedule?  Yes, but only if you are not contracted by the patient's insurer.  If you have signed a contract to provide services for any insurance company, you are obligated to honor the contract.  On the other hand, if the patient has no health insurance at all, you are free to charge what you wish.

3.) How can I be guaranteed that the patient really has no health insurance?   We recommend that you do two things.  First, explain to your patient that if they have health insurance, you are obligated to provide services as agreed to under your contract with the insurer.  Second, we recommend that you have the patient sign a copy of your practice profile which states that the patient does not have health insurance.  Keep a copy of this agreement on file in the patient's chart.

4. How does HowMuchDoc.com help my practice?  One third of all Americans were uninsured during 2004.  Most uninsured patients are unwilling and afraid to enter the healthcare system without some idea of what the potential costs could be.  You can reach this population by profiling your practice on HowMuchDoc.com.

The advantages to your practice are:

bulletExposure to a new, large patient population.
bulletPatients who pay cash at the time of service.
bulletInternet exposure for your practice.

5.) Do I have to honor printed charges on my HowMuchDoc.com practice profile?  Yes.  But you can change your profile of services and charges at any time.

6.) Can I add more than twelve services?  No.  The twelve services you select to post on your doctor profile are intended to represent your practice and give prospective patients a general understanding of your charges.  The twelve services are not intended to be a comprehensive list of all services.  We suggest you maintain a comprehensive cash fee schedule for use as patients present for service.

7. ) Can patients with a MSA (medical savings account) use money from their account for the services published on my doctor profile page?  Absolutely.

8.) At the end of my one year subscription with HowMuchDoc.com will you automatically bill my credit card?  No.  You will be sent three email reminders.  You will have to authorize renewal of your subscription.

9.) We have three doctors in our office.  Can we put all three on the same doctor profile page?  No.  Doctor profile pages include educational backgrounds that would be impossible to merge with other doctors in your office.  You would require three doctor profiles.

10.) If we add more than one doctor or more than one office, that could get expensive.  Do you offer a price break for additional offices?  Yes we do.  We offer two tiers of reduced pricing for each doctor with more than two and more than twelve offices/doctors.

11.) Does HowMuchDoc.com enter my doctor profile?  No.  You are given a password and user code.  You can access your doctor profile at any time to make changes or revisions.  HowMuchDoc.com does offer technical support on our toll free line or at support@HowMuchDoc.com.

12.) When I develop my doctor profile, how can I add different services that are not already listed?  Contact us at support@HowMuchDoc.com and we'll add the services to the menu for you.

13.) Is HowMuchDoc.com some sort of PPO?  No.  You have no contract with HowMuchDoc.com.  You're free to charge whatever you feel is a fair fee for your services.

14.) HowMuchDoc.com is free to patients and doctors both?  Yes. Until we can provide relevant and meaningful search results we are offering free sign up for doctors.  When we do reach our threshold of doctors and can provide valid search results for patients, we will then begin charging an annual subscription fee to doctors.
